As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up and saw the Egyptians marching after them, and they were terrified and cried out to the LORD.

The cords of death encompassed me; the torrents of chaos overwhelmed me. The cords of Sheol entangled me; the snares of death confronted me.

For I hear the slander of many; there is terror on every side. They conspire against me and plot to take my life.

My heart murmurs within me, and the terrors of death assail me. Fear and trembling grip me, and horror has overwhelmed me.

From the ends of the earth I call out to You whenever my heart is faint. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

Look to my right and see; no one attends to me. There is no refuge for me; no one cares for my soul.

“You of little faith,” Jesus replied, “why are you so afraid?” Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and it was perfectly calm.

I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take courage; I have overcome the world!”

strengthening the souls of the disciples and encouraging them to continue in the faith. “We must endure many hardships to enter the kingdom of God,” they said.

who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. ... We do not want you to be unaware, brothers, of the hardships we encountered in the province of Asia. We were under a burden far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired even of life. Indeed, we felt we were under the sentence of death, in order that we would not trust in ourselves, but in God, who raises the dead. He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and He will deliver us. In Him we have placed our hope that He will yet again deliver us,

Indeed, all who desire to live godly lives in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,

Then let us arise and go to Bethel. I will build an altar there to God, who answered me in my day of distress. He has been with me wherever I have gone.”

Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and He delivered them from their distress.

It is well with the man who is generous and lends freely, whose affairs are guided by justice.

Discretion will watch over you, and understanding will guard you,

For his God instructs and teaches him properly.

Behold, I am sending you out like sheep among wolves; therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.
