¹⁸Then King David went in, sat before the LORD, and said, “Who am I, O Lord GOD, and what is my house, that You have brought me this far?

⁵My ears had heard of You, but now my eyes have seen You. ⁶Therefore I despise myself, and I repent in dust and ashes.”

²I said to the LORD, “You are my Lord; apart from You I have no good thing.”

⁵Then I said: “Woe is me, for I am ruined, because I am a man of unclean lips dwelling among a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of Hosts.”

⁷I will make known the LORD’s loving devotion and His praiseworthy acts, because of all that the LORD has done for us—the many good things for the house of Israel according to His great compassion and loving devotion.

⁸O LORD, we are covered with shame—our kings, our leaders, and our fathers—because we have sinned against You. ⁹To the Lord our God belong compassion and forgiveness, even though we have rebelled against Him

⁸When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees. “Go away from me, Lord,” he said, “for I am a sinful man.”

⁵Young men, in the same way, submit yourselves to your elders. And all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

⁸If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. ⁹If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. ¹⁰If we say we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar, and His word is not in us.

²⁷saying, “Blessed be the LORD, the God of my master Abraham, who has not withheld His kindness and faithfulness from my master. As for me, the LORD has led me on the journey to the house of my master’s relatives.”

⁵You made him a little lower than the angels; You crowned him with glory and honor.

²⁰You will show faithfulness to Jacob and loving devotion to Abraham, as You swore to our fathers from the days of old.

¹⁰Meanwhile Jacob left Beersheba and set out for Haran. ¹¹On reaching a certain place, he spent the night there because the sun had set. And taking one of the stones from that place, he put it under his head and lay down to sleep.

⁷Though your beginnings were modest, your latter days will flourish.

⁴³Thus Jacob became exceedingly prosperous. He owned large flocks, maidservants and menservants, and camels and donkeys.

¹⁸But remember that it is the LORD your God who gives you the power to gain wealth, in order to confirm His covenant that He swore to your fathers even to this day.

³⁵You have given me Your shield of salvation; Your right hand upholds me, and Your gentleness exalts me.

⁷They go from strength to strength, until each appears before God in Zion.

⁹Yet a righteous one holds to his way, and the one with clean hands grows stronger.

¹⁸The path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, shining brighter and brighter until midday.
