I’d never heard your name or seen your picture before I heard about how you’d been abusing your position in public office. That’s quite a legacy achievement, considering you might never have been heard of in my country otherwise. I’m also guessing that your surname has a Germanic origin. No name to bad name in one go!
It’s hardly a first though. I happen to be old enough to be aware that your starve-em-out tactics against the homeless in your town are pretty similar to those used against the Jews in the Warsaw ghetto during the Second World War, along with the automatic persecution of anyone rendering them assistance or sustenance. Your name therefore presently stands alongside the names of various others of notoriety, who I have never met nor will ever meet, until perhaps you have a change of either heart or occupation.
It seems that you are not content with heaping public and worldwide contempt upon the office which you presently occupy but insist on implicating your law enforcement officers in what you are attempting to achieve by ordering them to commit the shameful offences against decent people which have now been publicised worldwide.
Jack, if you’ve any understanding of public office and history you ought to realise that you can legislate against mad dogs and criminals but you cannot enforce legislation against basic human decency. Every attempt at this has been short lived and has ended badly for those attempting to do so, as surely as water is wet.
It is foolish of you to think that you can intimidate a gentleman who is ninety years of age with repeated arrests. What do you suppose that he has to lose at his age except his integrity? Do you think that you can separate him from it so easily? He has clearly lived a longer, wiser and better life than many including, needless to say, yourself. I have no doubt that he will continue to act according to his good conscience until he draws his last breath. If you have any knowledge of history whatsoever, you ought also to understand that should this charitable gentleman be physically prevented by any means from his continuing his good work, many others will step up to replace him.
I’ll offer you a true lesson from my family history. My late mother was bombed out of her family home during the blitz on London during WW2. This was before she married or bore any of us. Her home was on the boundary of East London and Essex. She continued to work night shifts in an East London geriatric hospital throughout the blitz as a volunteer nurse, undeterred by falling bombs and the rain of shrapnel from anti-aircraft artillery. The hospital was located near to the largest goods railhead in the country, which was a constant target of German air raids, and took direct and indirect hits on occasions.
If you believe that might is right, you should consider the fact that she survived the war unscathed, unlike the majority of German airmen who flew those constant raids. She also acquired the same fearlessness which the target of your recent persecution has displayed to the admiration of a great many throughout the world.
It may mean little or nothing to you but you should understand that, as contemptible as your actions have been to date, there are those who are prepared to pray for you according to the same Spirit by which the early church prayed for Saul of Tarsus while he was persecuting them. There was a great and fully realised hope for him. The same may be true for yourself as time will no doubt tell one way or the other.
